Our History

The Center for Child Protection and Family Support (Center)was founded in 1987 by two child advocates, Joyce N. Thomas, a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Dr. Carl M. Rogers, a Research Psychologist.

In 2018, the Center established a formal partnership with Georgetown Medical School in Washington, DC to provide training to medical students on key issues related to health and safety for vulnerable children and families.

About Us

In 2012, the Center has redesigned program activities to promote greater focus on child safety, victim advocacy, public policies, research, parent education, and violence prevention. We work in partnership with the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Freddie Mac Child, and Adolescent Protection Center; East River Family Strengthening Collaborative, and numerous others public and private agencies in DC. The Center works closely with national organizations such as: National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence; Institute on Violence Abuse and Trauma; National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; Futures without Violence; and Ujima: The National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community.
